Summer Palace Part II

I'M BACK............I wanted to post more on our first full day in Beijing & our touring of the Summer Palace & The Great Wall. As I mentioned before, our room internet access did not work while in Beijing and both days we were gone touring until later evening.

A very short (cliff note version) history lesson: The Palace was first constructed in 1750 for the royal family exclusive use. One of the emperor's mothers was responsible for the building of this recreation spot for the family including the man made lake. This is a favorite spot for Beijinger's to come & enjoy the outdoors. This is now their park!

It is a huge place and really beautiful, even in the winter. I think it must have been the Chinese who coined the phrase, "the devil is in the details" because the craftsmanship you see here is intricate in all of their artistry. Since I'm posting this in hind site of our Beijing touring, I would say this along with the Great Wall wast was my favorite. I love to garden and so this place was a real treat. The weather was sunny, dry & COLD here. As someone who loves gardens, I can tell that the other seasons would offer beautiful blooms & foliage that would be a site to see.

Hi Sharon and Darryl...happy Monday morning and happy Tuesday...good to see you again and get your update. Looking forward to seeing little Liliah's smiling face. Dad went golfing and it's a beautiful day for being outside. We pick the kids up from school today. One of the ladies from our church was asking if anyone was a Dodger fan as she had some Dodgers shirts that a friend gave her...I volunteered to take them...would you believe 4; 3 of them were my size and one Dad can wear. Love/hugs for all from Dad and Mom!!!
